The ECL-HD40 surveillance camera has a heavy duty case that provides a first line of defense against vandals, shrugging off thrown stones, bottles and other impromptu missile attacks with ease. This sturdy turret camera provides a high definition SDI video stream at a resolution of 1920x1080p using a 2.1 megapixel imaging pickup. The 1/3; CMOS sensor creates raw images at 16:9 format.

OSD Menu

The user or installer can adjust most settings through the OSD menu. The on-screen display menu can be accessed using a mini-joystick, and the cable routes through the base of the camera so its out of reach. User options include DNR and WDR as well as other settings. Rated for outdoor use. A mechanical IR filter helps guard against focus shift when daylight falls.

Wide Dynamic Range

Wide dynamic range or digital wide dynamic range (WDR and DWDR, respectively) are advanced forms of image compensation. These features protect video images by filtering out high levels of backlight while preserving foreground colors & luminance values. In action, dynamic range activity captures two images one with short exposure and one with longer exposure and combines them digitally or through an analog process in order to keep the best qualities.

White Balance Correction

White balance problem manifest themselves in the way colors are reproduced in comparison to white, which can be used as a base for comparison. Photographs of winter scenes showing snow with a blueish-tint is a common manifestation of a white balance problem.

All light has different qualities depending on its source. Sunlight, florescent light, incandescent light and reflected light exhibit different color temperatures. Auto-tracking white balance makes sure the color white is reproduced accurately. Some surveillance environments present unique lighting challenges, and if color reproduction is important than you want to select a security camera that has white balance features.

Backlight Compensation

When a video sensor images a scene it converts values of light into digital data. When an object is surrounded by light that originates behind the object, then details and color can be lost. Backlight compensation is a method that is built into the chipset and adjustable through the OSD menu that corrects data originating from this type of scene.

A camera without backlight compensation will often create a foreground image that appears too dark compared to the area surrounding it. The image appears like this because the sensor is compensating for the surrounding light. Intelligent backlight compensation attempts to protect the foreground subject and damps the surrounding light that might overpower the sensor. It helps to make sure that contrast, hue, and colors appear correctly.

Highlight Compensation

The bad guys learn about CCTV cameras just like everyone else. Sometimes they can shine a bright light into the lens, effectively the camera and making it unfit for imaging details like faces and other identifying factors. HLC is a method based in the chipset, and adjustable through the OSD menu, that is was designed to combat this technique.

In operation, HLC identifies the highest luminance points and masks them. It reduces the haze or halo of blurry white light that can form and eliminates disabling glare. Depending on the product OSD menu, you can often select the mask color, sensitivity and transparency.
